Recently, our friend, Susan, took The Fresh Lobster (TFL) along with her on her visit to Israel.  She was kind enough to send us some fun photos.

Marble statue

In the photo, above, The Fresh Lobster sits upon one of the marble statues found in the historic city of Caesarea. Caesarea is a town in Israel located mid-way between Tel Aviv and Haifa, on the Israeli coastal plain near the city of Hadera.

The town was built by Herod the Great about 25–13 BCE as a port city. Once the site of a Phoenician port, over the course of 12 years Herod built Caesarea into the grandest city other than Jerusalem in Palestine, with a deep sea harbor, aqueduct, hippodrome and magnificent amphitheater that remain standing today. Herod renamed the city Caesarea in honor of the emperor.

In the picture above, The Fresh Lobster sits upon the sign welcoming you to the Negev Desert.

Some of the items of note on the instructions:

  • Stay away from the cliff edge and be aware of rolling and falling stones.
  • Carry 5 liters of water per person per day. Do not plan on drinking natural water sources. Wear walking shoes and a hat.
  • The trails are suitable for fit hikers only.

We might mention that The Fresh Lobster did not continue on this desert hike, although Susan and her daughter enjoyed a challenging 3 hour hike where they saw lizards, caves and a couple of mirages.

The Fresh Lobster sits atop the sign that welcomed Susan and her daughter to the tented campsite where they spent the night near the Mitzpe Ramon crater.

The Hebrew lettering translates to “blessed coming” and serves as a welcome for guests. The Ramon Crater is the largest of three Negev craters, containing geological formations unlike those you would see anywhere else in the world. Together with a magnificent panorama, it presents a fascinating story of geomorphologic evolution.

The Ramon Nature Reserve which encompasses the crater and the Negev mountains surrounding is the largest nature reserve in Israel.

If you are planning a trip, let us know.  We would love to send The Fresh Lobster along to accompany you.  It could be kind of fun, and we’d love more pictures !!  Contact us and let us know where to send your Fresh Lobster friend.  If your picture is chosen as the photo of the month, we will send you a Fresh Lobster T- Shirt.
