Hello! I have been navigating the world of caterers recently, trying to find an affordable and unique way to feed 80 people. You have all been a big help with other questions before so thanks in advance for any info for this one! My fiance and I like the idea of having a cook-out style wedding reception with grilled meat and fish. Has anyone done this before, or contemplated doing it and been in touch with some RI companies? I contacted McGrath Clambakes and B&M. Has anyone heard good/bad things about either of these? I also found Becky’s BBQ but the website leads me to wonder how professional they might be or if they’re used to catering weddings. I have already spoken to many of the popular caterers in the area (Pranzi, Blackstone, Glorious Affairs, etc) but want to check on alternatives to these.

We are using B&M Catering based on recommendations from other brides and they’ve been great so far! If you have their menus, we’re doing the “This Ain’t Yo Mama’s Traditional Wedding” menu with marinated grilled steak tips, grilled swordfish, the best Key lime chicken, “cherry bomb” salad, fresh grilled veggies, roasted potatoes with onions (substituted for pasta salad) and half cornbread/half rolls. We had our tasting – before we even booked!  And it was awesome. They even made our cocktail hour apps, which include bacon-wrapped scallops, sesame chicken skewers and little cups of clam chowder. We’re also doing a cheese/cracker display. They made other dishes for us to try as well and gave us all the leftovers in to-go containers. It totally fits our laid-back vibe and we are expecting about the same number as you are, 75-80 (less if we can cut the list a little further). I priced out B&M vs. McGraths and B&M was a far better value for what we wanted. Hope that helps, and welcome!

KB_RI your menu sounds a lot like the one I would like! It was tasty? That’s exciting 🙂 B&M is priced right and I love the idea of a semi-formal BBQ.

Yes, it was great! And I thought of you (even though I don’t know you, ha-ha) yesterday because I was talking to someone about the wedding at a meeting for work and he asked who my caterer is. He happens to own a venue in southern RI (wish I’d met him last year!) and said B&M has been on his site many times and they are very professional, neat and clean, they refill the food all the time, have a nice, courteous staff and people rave about the food. It always makes me feel better to hear good things about our vendors!
