Holiday Dinners - Preparation is Key
Holiday meals are the perfect opportunity to extend your thanks through food. For those who don’t like to cook, the idea of preparing a meal for 5, 15, 30 people can sound like the antithesis of showing thanks. We are here to to share some tips on how to make holiday meals easy!
Plan your recipes in advance:
Preparation is key! The internet, cooking shows, and family members have tons of recipes you can use. Make yourself a mini cookbook of shorts, by accumulating recipes for your turkey, sides, apps, and desserts. Read them over, write down the ingredients needed, and most important, note the cook time / temperature for each dish. This will help you later!
Go shopping a few days before your get together:
Getting your grocery shopping out of the way is a big help!
Prep the food the night before:
You can prep most, if not all, of your sides / desserts the night before your event. Prep means you assemble the dish, but don’t cook it. This way, on the day of your holiday dinner, you can just pop everything into the oven!
Heat your sides while your turkey rests:
A lot of people worry about not having enough space in the oven. The thing with turkeys is they need to rest for a significant amount of time, up to 45 minutes, depending on the size of your turkey. When the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165℉, pull it out to rest. Increase the temperature of the oven, and heat up your sides while the turkey rests. If your dishes need to be cooked at different temperatures, like 350℉ or 375℉, set the oven at 360℉, and slightly change the cook time of the dishes.
